John McCain has just achieved new levels of awesomeness

By Kathy G.

With this just-published comment:

Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.

By all means, let’s marketize health care. Listen to McCain …

The “solution,” my friends, isn’t a one-size-fits-all big-government takeover
of health care. It resides where every important social advance has always resided—with the American people themselves, with well informed
American families making practical decisions to address their imperatives for better health and more secure prosperity. The engine of our prosperity and progress has always been our freedom and the sense of responsibility for and control of our own destiny that freedom requires.

His assumption, I suppose, is that the health insurance market will do as well the unregulated financial market that he and his economic advisor, Phil Graham, championed. What a hoot!

The solution isn’t big government takeover of health care, but big government takeover of the Wall Street financial mess is? Free enterprise for the middle-class, socialism for the rich.

Currently there are 47 million Americans without health insurance. Under McCain’s plan it is estimated that the number of uninsured would increase by 5 million after five years. Employer-provided health insurance would be taxed under his plan, which would greatly reduce the number of people, an estimated 20 million, who would get health insurance at work. The McCain health care tax credits would be indexed to regular inflation, which would mean fewer people would be able to afford health insurance. More uninsured.

The engine of our prosperity? What prosperity? Billions, if not trillions, for the Wall Street bailout.

And, quit calling me your friend! I am NOT your friend!

I think it's Barack Obama's fault that he ran this flyer.

And for the last time, can someone explain to me how the government could create any more bureaucracy than presently exists in the health care industry? There's something like a 7000:1 bureaucrat-to-provider ratio at this point.

No, let's do what McCain suggests. Then, when the health insurance industry crashes and burns the way the banking and finance industry did, the government can step in and take over and we can finally have single-payer health insurance.

Or, we can go right to single-payer and skip the people-dying-in-the-streets part.
